Vanilla × tahitensis is a natural hybrid. It is considered a species in that it was created by nature, not by humans. The Vanilla flavor of this variety is considered extremely nice often called the French Gourmet Vanilla. Its beans sell for 9-10 times the price of the common Vanilla plantifloria. These are cutting about 10 inches rooted into 4-inch pots. It was not possible to get the true plant. Oriental growers were protective of their exclusive. The University of Florida obtained the plant and certified it was correct by DNA analysis.
