This is unique in that it is a naturally occurring hybrid of Den. bullenianum, which is orange, and Den. goldsmithianum, which is a dark maroon flower. The result is a Coral Red flower. It will develop more red than the photo as it ages. This spring they are very red. Since it is naturally occurring it still classifies as a species, although sometimes referred to as a hybrid. Some growers label it as 'Den. x usitae' to indicate a natural hybrid. Like both of its parents, it forms a cluster of small flowers in a golf ball size all along the length of a leafless cane. These are tall plants (20 inches) in 4 inch baskets grown here in Florida for the past year. We find they grow excellent in baskets. They bloom from the middle of March to the end of April.
