Vanilla is an edible orchid and the source of all vanilla bean favoring for so many foods. We have well rooted plants grown from seedlings. The photo is the flower and our biggest plant on the right weights about 200 pounds with vines over 20 feet curled back onto itself. Vanilla only flowers when it is quite large and seldom until the vine reaches 6 feet. There is no natural insect to fertilize the orchids. All are hand fertilized. The vines are about 8-12 inches long right now. These have the normal green colored leaves. Vanilla grow very fast the one in the photo has grown as much as 12 feet in a week, but only one week a year. The seedlings take three growing seasons to reach over 10 feet.
